What to pay attention to when choosing embroidery thread
check that it does not fade
Check out the brand's website to make sure the thread doesn't fade. Some threads are made from less expensive fibers and dyes, which can make them prone to fading over time or bleeding into fabrics when washed. Using colorfast thread will protect your creations after washing and also prevent colors from fading over time.
texture
Cheaper cotton embroidery floss has a fuzzy texture, which can make your embroidery look dull. Higher quality floss will have a nice smooth texture and shine.
durability
Check the care instructions for your floss to see if it is washable. This is important if you sew clothing or use water-soluble stabilizers. You should also check out the various threads. Cheaper threads will have thin or brittle individual strands.
Thread color selection
Another thing to consider is the variety of colors a particular brand has. Some have limited color palettes, while others, like DMC and Anchor, have hundreds of different colors to choose from. This may not matter to some, but if you're making work that requires a lot of different colors (i.e. line drawings), you'll want to have a variety of options.
